We are about to get a 2023 287 SSX and I've been looking on the forums and scouring the internet for customizations and personalization's, other than boat names of course... I am talking functional adds and changes owners have made to their Chaparral's, but I am coming up empty. Only finding ad after ad from dealers showing off stock boats both new and used. Anyone have any sources to point me to or care to share your story?

There are a number of things I think the current design lacks, and one is easy immediate access space or for a lack of a better term short term storage space. For instance, at the helm... the only space the current layout affords is 1 cup holder. That's it... Which mean you can use it for your phone or a drink... But no space to have both. These both are kind of essential for the driver. I thought about making one of those 1980 hang on window cup holders to hang on the one cup holder that is there, but this would intrude in the space for the throttle control, so nope... can't do that. I have a few other thoughts on improving this and other things... just curious what others do or have done.
 
Hi @Frogfather, I don't have a Chaparral, but I do have some of the same storage issues you mention. For my phone at the helm, I added a Ram Mounts phone holder with suction cup (Link) directly to my instrument panel. This freed up my cup holder, and kept the phone usable, but out of the way. I also don't have a glove box, or other storage at the helm, so I plan to add a mesh bag similar to this Link on the starboard side in front of the captains seat.

I like Chaparral boats and the 287 SSX looks awesome. Good luck on your purchase, and keep us updated on your customizations once you get it.
